Abstract. The work highlights the importance of reviewing the distribution model in retail banking in light of recent technological innovation. Technological innovation requires strong investments (modernization, data analysis and processing, new approach to customer relations) that are redesigning the global banking landscape to the point that banks must radically rethink what it takes to compete and win. In this perspective, the paper provides useful indications both to management scholars and to bank managers to identify the main competitive challenges of the near future and, consequently, to identify the most appropriate strategic and operational responses.
