Abstract
Obiettivo. L’obiettivo di questo lavoro è quello di analizzare l’evoluzione e lo stato dell’arte della ricerca sul tema dell’economia circolare abbinato a quello della sostenibilità, al fine di individuare i contributi e i risultati più influenti e le questioni che necessitano di ulteriori approfondimenti.
Metodologia. Questo lavoro si basa sul metodo dell’analisi bibliometrica associato a quello della mappatura scientifica, applicati per lo studio di 109 pubblicazioni sull’economia circolare e sulla sostenibilità.
Risultati. I risultati mostrano gli autori e le pubblicazioni più citate nonché una mappa di valutazione delle parole più frequenti e più citate nei documenti analizzati. Vengono inoltre individuati quattro cluster di parole chiave correlate tra loro sulla base della co-occorrenza che consentono l’identificazione delle relazioni tra ogni dimensione coinvolta nello studio.
Limiti della ricerca. Il principale limite della ricerca, tipico degli studi basati sulle analisi bibliometriche, è che i risultati dello studio sono fortemente influenzati dalle keywords scelte per la ricerca dei documenti.
Implicazioni pratiche. Dall’analisi svolta è emerso che gli studi presenti in letteratura focalizzandosi su aspetti connessi alle singole aziende non prendono in considerazione le soluzioni che potrebbero essere adottate a livello sistemico. I risultati, dunque, suggeriscono agli studiosi di indirizzare le future ricerche in questa direzione.
Originalità del lavoro. I principali lavori sul tema oggetto di indagine sono semplici revisioni o analisi bibliometriche; questo lavoro aggiunge valore alla letteratura esistente applicando il metodo della mappatura scientifica.

Aim. The aim of this work is to analyse the evolution and state of the art of the research on the topic of circular economy combined with that of sustainability in order to identify the most influential contributions and results and the issues that need further investigation.
Methodology. This work is based on the method of the bibliometric analysis associated with that of the scientific mapping, applied to the study of 109 publications on circular economy and sustainability.
Findings. The results show the most cited authors and publications as well as an evaluation map of the most frequent and most cited words in the analysed documents. Four clusters of correlated keywords are also identified on the basis of their co-occurrence, allowing the identification of the relationships between each dimension involved in the study.
Research limits. The main research limitation, typical of studies based on bibliometric analysis, is that the results of the study are strongly influenced by the keywords chosen for the document search.
Practical implications. From the analysis, it emerges that previous studies focus on aspects related to single companies and do not take into consideration the solutions that could be adopted at a systemic level. The results, therefore, suggest scholars to direct future research in this direction.
The Originality of the study. The main works on the topic investigated are simple revisions or bibliometric analyses; this work adds value to the existing literature by applying the method of scientific mapping.
